Up Close and Personal

This is a doorway to the baptistry.

The duomo.

You know how they say they reuse the marble from other buildings? The duomo actually had words and pictures from other buildings carved in the marble. This one is even upside down.

When Dad and I were in Italy our guide said the Italians were the original recyclers. That's why so much of the marble is missing off the outside of the Coloseum. Also at Saint Mark's in Venice there are columns they used in building the cathedral from all over the place. They are all different colors of stone and very beautiful.
